We will be sending you WETS letters via email and posts on our website throughout the year. If you are not on the Longhorn swim network email list or the T-Association list; please contact Jill Sterkel . We apologize to those without email, but this will save us lots of money to be spent on worthy projects? Let us know if you don’t have email and we will mail you a printed version.
$$ WETS Dews are due $$
Thanks for helping Texas Swimming stay afloat. Please use our website to pay your dues or send in the envelope with your 2013-2014 donation (plez wets your own stamp to save us some $$$). Do not send more than $100.00 (unless you are paying for banquet tickets) as big donations are still needed to help UT swimming by donating to the Longhorn Foundation. Don’t forget to check Swimming and Diving when donating!!!
Our treasurer, $cott Mactier, reports that we are in good financial condition and have plenty of liquid assets to put on our annual banquet, provide the team awards and Erwin plaques, print and mail this fun letter and help where we can. We appreciate all the work Scott and his bride Karan are doing to help the organization! Our balance stands at just over $13,655.74. We even splurged for a reunion before the Big XII in Austin that was very well attended. Your little splash of cash helps us promote UT Swimming and Diving, gives honor to our great past and helps the future of Burnt Orange Aquatics.

Always quick with a smile Mary has endeared herself to the Men’s teams from past to the current generations of swimmers. The success of our teams over the past two-plus decades is most certainly due in great part to Mary Juarez.

It was a great year for the Longhorn Women under new Coach Carol Capatani and veteran dive Coach Matt Scoggin. Texas won the Big XII and finished 9th at the NCAA meet. The highlight of the meet was a victory by Laura Sogar in the 200 breastroke which broke a drought since 2002 of an individual title by a Longhorn. Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame News:
Former Longhorn standout Neil Walker was inducted in April into the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame. A capacity crowd was on hand to see Neil receive this very deserving award… Go to the TSDHOF website to hear Neil’s acceptance speech and see some great photos of the event. Make plans to see Neil officially inducted at the TSDHOF Invitational December 7th in Austin.
Swim Center director and Hall of Fame curator Charles Logan reports: The Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame continues to add memorabilia and displays to the dedicated hall at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center. Enhancements have been made to the Texas Swimming Pool display and a new exhibit details the history of the Texas Aqua Carnivals. The Hall has recently received some Olympic gold medals and other great items to add to a Texas Olympic display. The Hall is actively seeking donations of any memorabilia such as posters, pictures, awards, etc. that will enhance the museum. A new film is being created about Tex Robertson’s contributions to aquatics in Texas. A preview can be found at www.tsdhof.org .
The TSDHOF is a non-profit organization and very much needs your support to exist. DONATE HERE You may make a contribution online (it’s easy and appreciated) to honor an inductee or simply send us a donation to help us stay afloat. Donations may be sent to 45 Lake Forest Circle, Conroe, TX 77384
WET SPOTS . . .
If any of you have pictures, news or address changes; please send to WETS or email me . Our new website has been a blessing and I want to thank Jon Lucksinger (Tex’s grandson) for maintaining the site and posting all the great info and pictures. Jill Sterkel is keeping up with all email addresses and getting news out to all of us. Please let her know your email address so she can continue to build a great support base for Longhorn Swimming and Diving……Darrell Fick, Team Captain of my 1979 team, is recruiting all the teams that end in 3. Show up and be counted…if you can’t make the gathering this year then the 4’s need to start planning. Darrell is working on the team captains of the 4s!!!……Darrell’s roommate Guy Hagstette continues to make headlines in Houston. Guy was an All-American backstroker and now famous for all the great deeds in his hometown as a city planner and architect. Coach Pat sent us this great article: Guy-Hagstette-has-a-plan-for-Houston ….. A big shout out to Team Longhorn in the Swim Across America Dallas fundraiser led by team captains Lydia Morrow Chase and Kristi Busico Metzger. They raised a tremendous amount of money to support the fight against Cancer. Former Longhorn greats, Daniel Watters, Andrea Hayes Dickson and Jeannie Doolan Cunningham organized a very successful event on Lake Ray Hubbard as 224 swimmers dove into the lake to “Make Waves to Fight Cancer.” Friday evening, before the swim, over 80 youth swimmers from around the metroplex gathered at the Town North YMCA and spent 3 hours learning tips of technique and motivation from the best! UT Olympians Josh Davis, Neil Walker, Jill Sterkel, Kirk Stackle and Daniel Watters put on a great clinic for these kids who strive to be the best. After the swimming, kids enjoyed pizza, photos, and autographs…… It is always great to see former Longhorn diving coach Mike Brown and Anita Rossing. They along with their daughter Rika came to Austin for Mike’s induction into the Women’s Hall of Honor. They plan on coming back to Austin for the TSDHOF Invitational in December with their University of Hawaii divers…..I am still sad about the loss of a great friend and a true UT and Texas Swimming Legend Jane Kneip Patterson. See a tribute video Tribute video HERE on the TSDHOF website and keep Coach Pat and his family in your prayers… also please pray for Wally Pryor (WETS Prez for the first 30 years) and his family as he battles with health issues… As always I ran out of room to brag about Longhorn Swimming past present and future…. ….Let’s all make an effort to unite September 13th and 14th in Austin!! Calling all 3’s…..
or with JILL… Hook’em and see you there….
