The Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame was created in 2008 to ensure the preservation of Texas aquatic history and honor our great contributors. Tex would be so happy to know that one of his star swimmers and longtime friend Hondo Crouch and legendary Longhorn diving coach Mike Brown are being honored with induction into the TSDHOF in Houston April 12th. They will join the 45 pioneers and legends (almost half of them Longhorns) already inducted along with this year’s other recipients: Dennis Fosdick, Dana Vollmer and Lifetime Achievement award recipient Johnnie Means. Please see the enclosed information about this great event! Sign up for the event or make a donation to honor Hondo or Brownie from the website or wait for the envelope that is coming your way soon.

If you know of a worthy candidate to receive this prestigious award please read the guidelines on the website, download the form, and send it to nomination chairman Nathan Breazeale by April 1st.

WETSPOTS:
We are so happy to have Steve Patterson as the new men’s AD. He and Chris Plonsky will do a super job supporting Longhorn swimming and diving. DeLoss will be a tough act to follow.…. Also supporting the Horns at the Arizona meet is 6-year-old Chloe Nenon, daughter of Philip Nenon (79-82). Philip said “even though she was over-sized and outnumbered she proudly holds up her Horns”….Thank goodness for my nephew Ross; he spent five years researching and writing a book about his grandfather and sales are exceeding expectations….. “Who was Tex Robertson? It would take an entire book to answer that question. Luckily, there is one. It’s the story of an officer in the original Navy SEALs, an Olympian, a national champion, the first swim coach at the University of Texas, inventor of the flip turn, inventor of the Frisbee (yes, that Frisbee), founder of the nation’s biggest summer camp, and more.” As Texas assistant coach Kris Kubik put it: “Hollywood created the fictional Forrest Gump. As I read Tex: The Father of Texas Swimming, I kept thinking to myself that this is the real life version of it! From Sweetwater to Los Angeles to Ann Arbor to New Haven to Ft. Pierce to Austin and finally to the magical shores of Inks Lake, this incredible story is a must read, inspiring adventure.” Order a copy! To follow the book… The TSDHOF video of Tex’s amazing life and his contribution to Texas aquatics is almost finished. Please visit the website see a preview of this project. Your generous donation will help create a full-length video and help the TSDHOF continue its mission…..We are all so proud of the job Brownie did in his 18 years and so great to see his champion pupil Matt Scoggin carry on the tradition. In December our UT divers won the men’s team national title and joined the UT women to lead The University of Texas to the combined team national championship at the U.S. Diving Winter Nationals for a second straight year….. Come by the swim center to see the wonderful improvements, The TSDHOF museum, Longhorn displays and of course the best swimmers and coaches in the world….Hope to see you in Houston. It will be fun honoring the life of Hondo. His grandson is former Longhorn swimmer, Kit Patterson. Mike Brown is coming from Hawaii for his induction. It would be so great to have a big group support him at this fun event.

Swimcerely,
Bill Robertson
